Good Morning Friends!
Doughnuts! Who doesn't love a great doughnut or even just a good doughnut? My original doughnut love was the Dunkin doughnut from Dunkin Doughnuts. It was in the shape of a Q, so you had a handle to, well, you know, dunk
From Northern California to Southern California, we have loads of doughnut shops to discover and enjoy. Here's the rundown from Redding to San Diego, with stops along the way. Enjoy!!!!
Starting in Redding
Here’s a list of the best places to eat doughnuts according to Restaurantji.com. There wasn’t much description of the shops as I found on other sites, but they do give them a star rating.
Next Up…San Francisco
Bob’s! Open 24 hours a day. It’s called the late-nite jewel.
“It’s 11 p.m. on a Friday, I’ve had three drinks and I’m staring longingly through the glass at a case of divine-looking doughnuts. Glazed beauties glisten under the shop lights, and a chocolate doughnut with an appealingly toasted marshmallow wedged in its center seems to sing to me. “
Next is…Fresno
“Beautiful Fresno is the biggest city in Central Valley. It’s home to numerous parks and gardens, including the remarkable Forestiere underground gardens. And it’s also the location for some seriously excellent donuts!”
We’re in…LA Now
“Doughnuts may very well be Los Angeles's quintessential start to the day, thanks to the Southeast Asian immigrants who brought these sweetly glazed treats to nearly every strip mall across the Southland. The city’s dynamic doughnut scene is not only comprised of these foundational mom-and-pop doughnut shops, with their signature pink boxes, but unique flavors from operators like Colorado Donuts and DK Donuts on the Westside. Given Angelenos’ tremendous appetites for all that’s deep-fried and delightful, there’s room for fritters of all stripes.”
And Finally…San Diego
“Live in or near in Escondido? Lucky you: it’s home to Peterson’s, the no-frills, top-quality doughnut destination in North County since 1981. For everyone else, Peterson’s old school doughnuts are worth the day trip. Hopefully they will continue to be, even after the new owner takes over. (The family recently sold the business.)”
This is just 1 of 15 shops. Click here for the rest.
After all of that eating it’s time to walk off the calories.
Looking For a Trail To Discover?
The Panorama Trail in Yosemite National Park is an incredible point-to-point hike that offers a tour of some of the most spectacular features in the park. Beginning at Glacier Point, hikers can treat themselves to ice cream while taking in a stunning view of the valley's natural icons, including Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, and the Royal Arches. While enjoying the broad sweeping vista, be sure to check out the geology hut to learn about the tectonic forces and glacial movements that formed this amazing landscape.
Snowy Owls Your Thing?
Thousands of people are descending upon a quiet Southern California suburb with cameras in hand, hoping to catch a glimpse of the bird of prey that mysteriously found its way far from home.
Here’s the link for more about the owl and how to visit along with the rules.
Finally, Disney has come to its senses!
The House of Mouse and new/old CEO Bob Iger decided to rollback the prices.
Iger hit a hole-in-one this week by jettisoning the price hikes that his predecessor, Bob Chapek, had instituted in 2021, reports The New York Times. Chapek was chairman of parks and resorts before he became CEO, in what was ultimately a brief stint. And he made one pretty unpopular move in this period when he raised prices at Disney’s U.S. theme parks.
We hope you enjoyed this week's California Mishegoss, even though it was calorie-laden. Maybe it's what the good doctor ordered; then, maybe not.
Either way, enjoy your weekend and the week ahead.
