Good Morning Friends!
Isn’t that a great-looking waterfall? I don’t know about you but I use to enjoy hanging out and swimming in a place where there’s a waterfall when I was younger. If Patti and I could just find the time now I’m sure that feeling would be the same.
If you’re like me then you’ll enjoy our first story from Josh from the newsletter Through My Lens. Great story, great pics, and a great newsletter to read.
Of course, we have more things below to see, eat and drink. We even found a spot where Jesse James hung out and drank. It may be right up your alley!
Anyway enjoy today’s California Mishegoss and remember to share since that’s how we grow, word of mouth is the best review we can ask for.
Be Well! Stay Safe! Happy Holidays!

Are You a Lover of Waterfalls?
Josh from the newsletter Through My Lens is great at capturing some of the greatest spots to check out in California and other areas around the country. He writes, photographs, and publishes magnificent stories that you should check out today!
The story about waterfalls in Whiskeytown is in his recent newsletter titled Whiskeytown Falls. Here’s a little from his article and click the read more link to further investigate. I promise you won’t be sorry!
“Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is about 15 miles outside of Redding and has a ton of stuff to do. It surrounds a vast and beautiful lake that has beaches, hiking, and water sports for every member of the family. When I went there, I hiked one of the widely recognized “best waterfalls in Northern California” called Whiskeytown Falls. Located at the west end of the lake about 9 miles from the visitor center, is a turn off for a small road that leads you three miles down to the trailhead, at the end of which you will have the below waterfall waiting for you.”
When You Want to Camp
This is one of the California desert's hidden gems, passed by millions of people a year crossing the Colorado River on I-40. A regional park operated by San Bernardino County, Moabi Regional Park — aka Park Moabi — sits on an old channel of the Colorado River at 450 feet above sea level, 12 miles east (in Interstate terms) of Needles. At first glance, this park may seem dispiritingly oriented toward the motorized recreation crowd: it's got a ramp for launching power boats, it's got a designated ORV area (lately closed) and it's got an almost completely paved campground for RV enthusiasts. But head out along the park road toward the river, then check out the 24 tent camping sites up and down "Peninsula Way."
How About Bathing in the Wild?
Tecopa Hot Springs
Before you get excited this piece I found was all about the artist Kim Stringfellow’s Mojave Desert expedition. It’s worth checking out.
Five bathers, mostly nude, one wearing long sleeves and a black beanie, lounge among ocher and brown reeds, the murky water of the hot springs coiling through sand. A blue camp chair draped with a towel stands nearby; behind it, clothing is piled on a rock.
Let’s Eat!
From the pages of L.A. Taco: 9 of the Best Pho Spots in Los Angeles & Orange County
Pho is a perfect cold-weather companion. Luckily as Southern Californians, we live near one of the country’s largest Vietnamese populations in the San Gabriel Valley, Garden Grove, and Westminster.
A good bowl of pho can be judged on the quality of its broth, which usually takes hours to simmer to a beautiful depth of flavor.
From Danny Palumbo at L.A. Magazine: 3 of the best Pasta places in Los Angeles
Danny Palumbo, a former line cook wrote a review of the top 3 pasta places in Los Angeles. I haven’t tried any of them to be honest, but I asked some family in LA to give them a try and review them for me. I’ll have some reviews in the future. If you should give them a try hit me up and let me know your thoughts.
Butterflies are Free in Pismo!
If you don’t it by now after seeing many posts about Pismo Beach, I am a lover of Pismo. Everything about it intrigues me and Patti. The one thing we haven’t visited yet is the Monarch Butterfly Preserve. Here’s what the San Francisco GHate had to say.
Monarch Butterfly Population Explodes at Pismo Beach
After a handful of dire years, the endangered western monarch is experiencing an unexpected population boom. The place to go? Pismo Beach and this is the perfect time to see them.
Time for Some Libation!
Have you ever wondered about where Jesse James drank when hanging out? Have you ever wanted to drink and hang out where he did? I found this article in the San Francisco Gate Newspaper the other day and wanted to share it with you.
From the article: The Elkhorn Bar is rife with ghost storiesand folklore, including being one-time host to Jesse and Frank James, the notorious bank-robbing brothers who briefly sought respite on the Central Coast early in their career. It also lays claim to being the second oldest bar in California in continuous operation in the state (the oldest one is reportedly the Iron Door Saloon in Groveland, just outside Yosemite).
The location and everything else you’d want to know is below.
